From Ebermannstadt to Behringersmühle Franconian Switzerland Steam Railway

In the summer, the DFS association (Dampfbahn Fränkische Schweiz/Franconian Switzerland Steam Railway) runs on a regular basis on the association-owned stretches of the Ebermannstadt-Behringersmühle historic steam railway.

Please obtain the current train timetable as well as additional information on the association’s own homepage, www.dfs.ebermannstadt.de.

There are train connections to Ebermannstadt with regional railways via the integral Bayerntakt (a regular train service): on the hour, DB (German Railways) trains run between Ebermannstadt and Forchheim. On the half hour, there is a train connection in Forchheim to/ from Bamberg and Nürnberg. Please also see the DB timetables for the Forchheim-Ebermannstadt and Forchheim-Erlangen-Nürnberg routes. VGN (Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg/the integrated public transport network of the Nuremberg area) has 4 fare zones from Forchheim to Ebermannstadt.

Hiking with the steam railway:
Instead of returning to the car’s parking space during hikes and thus walking many a distance twice: why not use the museum train as a train for your hikes. Quite a few hiking trails cross Franconian Switzerland. You will find all the information about the steam railway in the 80-page brochure “Die Dampfbahn Fränkische Schweiz – Fahrzeuge und Betrieb” (Franconia’s historic steam railway – its vehicles and operation). It is the ultimate leaflet on the history of the route from the branch line to Franconia’s first museum railway. All the railway vehicles are presented with many pictures and a lot of information. Available in the museum trains.

Railway museum:
The museum “Die Bahnschranke” (railway crossing gate) with exhibit items of rare brands (Liliput, “S” gauge) as well as relics, particularly from the Kgl. Sächsischen Staatseisenbahn (Royal Saxon State Railway) opened in Muggendorf in May 1996. It is the last building on the left at the town’s exit in the direction of Behringersmühle. The exhibition area has been extended continuously since then because of the enormous crowd of visitors. You can currently see: a comprehensive collection of model railway models of the “0” gauge; a garden railway layout of the “S+N” gauges and, unique to Germany, the “S” gauge from Bub/Nuremberg and Stadtilm.
